Department Overview:
The Systems group is an IT infrastructure support group. Our mission is to provide our business users and developers with everything they might require from their IT operating environment. The scope of our responsibilities range from providing reactive support for problems with staff’s trading positions and server support to writing and deploying utilities and applications to automate generic business processes, consulting and educative support for improving staff’s use of the systems we have. The scope of what we look after includes the following technologies, Operating Systems (desktop and server, Windows and UNIX-variants), Applications (everything from the Office suite to tools developed in-house), Networking (internal LANs and vendor), Databases (Sybase and Oracle), Hardware, Financial Data feeds and Telecoms infrastructures.

Main dutiesResponsibilities:
This is an entry-level position in the group, so the successful applicant would start as a generalist providing reactive support, and would be expected to show good organisation and ability to learn from those around them to become proficient in fixing problems the staff have. Two paradigms of the way we organise support here is that we expect our primary support people to be able to fix 80-90% of the problems we have reported, and if they are unable to fix them without the assistance of additional resources, to own and manage the problem through to completion. These precepts require us to hire a very much higher calibre level of support staff than would be found in most financial institutions. In return we offer a far greater breadth of exposure to different technologies and technical gurus, and far more responsibility than most entry-level positions.

Qualifications /Education:
Essential: Strong academic background. Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
Preferred: Post-graduate academic study

Experience required:
Essential: 0-2 years
Preferred: Candidate who has spent their own time in hands-on experimentation with systems infrastructure (coding, or building home networks)

Skills and Aptitude:
Strong team skills Sharp and personable demeanor Ability to accumulate and retain knowledge and utilize available resources to self-educate. Intelligence and common sense.
